What is assisted stretching?
Assisted stretching is a hands-on technique where a certified stretch therapist moves your muscles through their full range of motion — you relax while they do the work. It's effective for tight necks, sore shoulders, stiff lower backs, and restricted hips. YYC Mobility Care delivers assisted stretching in-home across Calgary.
What is PNF stretching?
PNF (Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation) stretching is one of the most effective techniques for improving flexibility and range of motion. It works by alternating between contracting and relaxing a muscle during the stretch — allowing your body to release deeper than passive stretching alone. Erwin incorporates PNF stretching into sessions where appropriate, helping clients achieve faster, longer-lasting results. It's particularly effective for tight hamstrings, hips, shoulders, and the lower back. Read: The Neuromuscular Science Behind Stretching →

What happens during a session?
Sessions take place in your home or preferred private location. A typical session includes a quick check-in on how you're feeling, hands-on manual assisted stretching tailored to your needs, and a wrap-up with recommendations for between visits.
Does this replace medical treatment or physiotherapy?
No. This service focuses on general wellness, mobility, and flexibility. It is not a substitute for physiotherapy, medical care, or injury rehabilitation. If you are experiencing pain or have a medical condition, please consult a licensed healthcare provider.
Do you treat injuries or diagnose pain?
No. This service does not diagnose or treat injuries or medical conditions. It focuses on improving mobility and reducing general muscle tension. For injuries or persistent pain, please consult a qualified healthcare professional such as your GP, physician, physiotherapist, or specialist.
Is it safe?
Yes. Sessions are performed within your comfortable range and always adapted to your tolerance. Your feedback is prioritised throughout to ensure a safe and effective experience.
What is the difference between PNF stretching and fascial stretch therapy (FST)?
Both are highly effective forms of assisted stretching, but they use different methods to release tension and increase your range of motion.
- Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST) is a mostly passive, table-based technique. The practitioner uses traction and sweeping movements to stretch the fascia — the connective tissue web surrounding your muscles and joints.
- PNF Stretching (Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation) is a highly active and interactive technique. It uses a "contract-relax" method where you actively push against the practitioner's resistance before releasing into a deeper stretch.
Why we use PNF: While FST is great for passive relaxation, PNF communicates directly with your nervous system. By actively contracting the muscle, you "trick" your body's stretch reflex into letting its guard down — providing rapid relief from stubborn tension and deeply retraining how your body handles movement. PNF is the gold standard for lasting results.
Is this an alternative to sports massage or deep tissue work?
Many clients come looking for an alternative to sports massage. While massage works directly on muscle tissue, assisted stretching focuses on the joint, fascia, and movement patterns that often cause the tension in the first place. Some clients use it in place of deep tissue sessions; others alternate between the two depending on what their body needs that week.
Can this help with tight hips, posture, and lower back tension?
Yes — these are three of the most common reasons people book. Assisted PNF stretching releases deep restriction that contributes to lower back discomfort and limited movement. We also incorporate posture correction stretches for the chest, shoulders, neck, and hip flexors — the muscle groups most affected by long hours at a desk.
Can I request specific areas to focus on?
Absolutely. Every session is tailored to your goals and the areas of tension or restriction you want to address. Just let us know before or at the start of your session.
